Cardano's Chang Hard Fork: A Major Milestone for Network Scalability and Governance
The Cardano ecosystem is preparing for a significant upgrade with the upcoming Chang hard fork, which promises to enhance the network's scalability, governance, and overall performance. Today, the working group behind the Chang hard fork announced tentative target dates for its implementation.
According to a bulletin from Intersect, a Cardano-focused educational resource, the working group has set a preliminary target date of 27 August for the Chang hard fork to go live on the production mainnet. A final decision on whether to proceed with the hard fork will be announced on 23 August.
In case the initial dates are not feasible, the technical team has also proposed 3 September as an alternative ideal window for the hard fork.
Key Improvements with the Chang Hard Fork
The Chang hard fork is set to introduce substantial upgrades to Cardano through the implementation of Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) 1694. This proposal aims to empower ADA holders with a more democratic role in the network's future development and upgrades. From a technical perspective, the hard fork will boost the network's throughput and efficiency.
For the first phase of the Chang hard fork to be successfully implemented, the following thresholds need to be met:
- 70% or more of the nodes must update to version v9.1.0.
- At least 80% of exchange liquidity should be ready to process transactions and operations effectively.
Last week, Cardano achieved the first threshold by attaining node readiness. However, while exchange readiness metrics have been improving, liquidity is still lagging. Currently, liquidity stands at 34.8% according to Cardanoscan data. Out of the exchanges, 21 have attained ‘Ready’ status to support the Chang hard fork, whereas 19 others, including major platforms like Binance, are still in the process of achieving readiness. Additionally, 17 exchanges, including Bybit, which holds a 5.42% share of exchange liquidity, have yet to record any progress.
ADA/USDT Technical Analysis and Market Sentiment
The Chang hard fork is anticipated to give Cardano (ADA) a much-needed boost, especially as it has recently fallen out of the top-10 rankings based on market capitalization. Cardano was recently overtaken by Tron (TRX), marking the second time in five months that ADA has been displaced, following its earlier demotion by Toncoin (TON) in May.
In the lead-up to Chang’s implementation, optimism surrounding the Cardano network has been rising. Santiment, a market intelligence platform, reported that Cardano has experienced the highest positive sentiment of the year, despite ongoing price struggles.
The announcement of the Chang hard fork's target dates has also provided a minor boost to ADA in the spot market. As of the latest data, Cardano (ADA) is trading at $0.353, reflecting a 6.82% increase over the past five days.
Technical Indicators and Market Trends
On the 4-hour chart, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator has shown strengthening upward momentum. The MACD line crossed above the Signal line on 19 August, signaling a shift in momentum towards the buyers. This technical indicator suggests a potential continuation of the positive trend as the market anticipates the impact of the Chang hard fork.
Summary
The upcoming Chang hard fork represents a pivotal moment for the Cardano ecosystem, promising significant advancements in governance and scalability. As the network gears up for this upgrade, key thresholds for node and exchange readiness are being monitored closely. The hard fork is expected to revitalize Cardano's market position and boost investor sentiment, as evidenced by recent positive sentiment and technical indicators.
Investors and traders should keep an eye on the final decision regarding the implementation dates and monitor key metrics related to node and exchange readiness. With the Chang hard fork on the horizon, Cardano (ADA) may be poised for a resurgence in both market ranking and overall network performance.
