What is Solana (SOL)?
Solana is a high-performance open-source project that leverages blockchain technology to provide solutions for the decentralized finance (DeFi) environment. Although the idea and initial work on the project began in 2017, Solana was officially launched in March 2020 by the Solana Foundation, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Solana protocol is designed to facilitate the creation of decentralized applications (DApps). It aims to improve scalability by introducing a Proof-of-History (PoH) consensus, combined with the underlying Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus on the blockchain. Thanks to its innovative hybrid consensus model, Solana is attracting interest from both small traders and institutional investors. One of the key focuses of the Solana Foundation is to make decentralized financial systems accessible to a wider audience.
